Live with a Tesla before deciding to buy
A seven-day Tesla hire lets you test the parts of ownership that a 20-minute dealership test drive cannot show. Drive your commute, park at home, load the boot, carry your usual passengers and work out where charging fits. Compare a current-generation 2026 Model Y and Model 3 based on real use rather than a showroom impression. Rent A Tesla is an independent hire company, not a Tesla dealership, and does not sell the car. We can explain the current cabin, software, phone key, charging and driver-assistance controls, but the decision remains yours. Pickup is available in Sydney and Auburn, with delivery options across Greater Sydney. Call 1300 356 387 with the proposed week, normal driving pattern, passenger needs and likely charging options. The vehicle is presented charged, and the booking call confirms the hire agreement, collection plan, charging arrangements, excess, bond and eligibility.

Day 1 — Learn the controls
Set up phone key, mirrors, seating, climate and navigation. Notice what feels intuitive and what needs practice.

Day 2 — Test home charging
Check whether charging is genuinely accessible where you live. Do not assume a shared or nearby charger is always available.

Day 3 — Test work charging
Follow your commute and investigate dependable workplace or nearby charging, including access hours and time parked.

Day 4 — Load the boot
Use your normal shopping, pram, work equipment or cases. Compare Model Y hatch access with Model 3 sedan storage.

Day 5 — Understand assistance
Use driver assistance only as briefed. Full Self-Driving (Supervised) requires constant attention and control.

Day 6 — Drive beyond routine
Plan a longer trip with the in-car Trip Planner and see how a Supercharger stop fits the day.

Day 7 — Compare the week
Review charging time, practical space, comfort and energy costs against your current petrol routine.
Compare running patterns, not a headline figure
Record actual charging sessions during the week and compare them with petrol spending over a similar pattern of driving. Include charging location, time spent, energy cost where known and any parking or venue condition. One unusually cheap or expensive session is not a reliable ownership forecast.
Think about convenience as well as cost. Home charging may turn routine parking into charging time; without it, public charging may require deliberate stops. Your weekly distance, electricity arrangements, route and driving style determine whether the pattern works. Rent A Tesla does not provide a universal saving claim.
Model Y or Model 3 for your routine
Use the Model Y if you need to test an SUV seating position, rear hatch and flexible luggage space. Load the items you actually carry and place passengers in their usual seats. Use the Model 3 if you want to assess a lower sedan, separate boot and city-focused proportions. Both are current-generation vehicles and normally available choices.
The evaluation should include difficult parts of the week: tight parking, school or work runs, night driving, wet weather and a trip that needs charging. Keep within the hire agreement and discuss any regional journey first. A realistic week is more useful than spending seven days only on easy roads.
Driver assistance needs a clear test standard
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is available where equipped. The driver must stay alert and in control. The car is not autonomous. Evaluate whether you understand the alerts, limits and need to supervise, rather than treating the system name as a promise that it will drive without you.
Over-the-air software updates keep the vehicle current, but software can change after the hire. Base any purchase research on the vehicle and features available to you, and verify future purchase specifications separately. We do not make claims about unreleased hardware, packages or performance.
